The Town of Owego (www.townofowego.com) consists of 104.17 square miles and is located in the southeast corner of Tioga County. Owego borders the Town of Tioga to the west, the Town of Newark Valley to the north, Broome County to the east, and Bradford County, Pennsylvania to the south. The 2000 Census listed the Town's population as 20,365. Lockheed Martin Federal Systems is the largest employer with about 3,000 employees. The Susquehanna River bisects the Town flowing east to west. Hiawatha Island, a 112 acre island located in the center of the river is across from the Town-owned Hickories Park, a popular park offering camping, sand volleyball, ball fields, pavilions, rollerblading, biking, and other outdoor activities. Attractions include two golf courses, driving range, nature center, a hotel, a few gift shops, farms, garden center and restaurants.
