The Town of Spencer (www.s-ve.com) consists of 49.56 square miles and is bordered by Chemung County to the west, Tompkins County to the north, the Town of Candor to the east, and the Town of Barton to the south. According to the 2000 Census the Town had a population of 2,979. The Town is primarily agricultural land and, like the Town of Candor, many people gravitate towards Ithaca and are employed by Cornell University. Spencer enjoys a special relationship with nearby Van Etten in Chemung County, which has been strengthened by the bond formed under the Spencer-Van Etten School system.
